Theatre Production
Chairpersons: Heather Matthews
Event Date: Rehearsals in April and performance in early May
Description: 6+ volunteers to assist Chair with managing this month long, after school theatrical production to include marketing in advance, collection of payment, ticket sales for performances, audio/sound system operation, refreshments and more.
Trunk or Treat
Chairpersons: Vanessa Centeno and Jeff Soderquist
Event Date: October 28, 2022
Description: This event is a free event for the McKenny community and families to attend on a Friday evening. This year we will host our second annual Trunk or Treat. 15-20 volunteers are needed for planning/organizing, decorating their vehicles, marketing/flyer distribution, set up, decorations, clean-up and take down, and more.
Restaurant Fundraisers
Chairpersons: Janelle Cromwell and Morgan Rydland
Event Dates: 1+ per year (MOD Pizza, Humble Cow, etc.)
Description: Families dine at the location and the school earns a percentage of the evening’s proceeds. One (1) volunteer needed to help Chairperson distribute fliers and attend event.
First Days/Parent Welcome
Chairpersons: PTO Board
Event Date: Morning of First Day of school (1st-5th grades each September) and/or First Day of Kindergarten (usually 1 week later)
Description: As many PTO Board Members, Committee Chairs and Class Parent Reps are asked to attend to meet and greet new and old parents/families. Volunteers help with set up, organizing light refreshments, answering questions, passing out shirts to new students, passing out PTO membership, volunteer and other related forms
Fun Run with Boosterthon
Chairpersons: Janelle Cromwell and Morgan Rydland
Event Date: March 10, 2022
Description: This year the event will be put on by Boosterthon but volunteers will still be needed. In the past we have needed 15-20 volunteers needed throughout the day to assist with managing students, tallying laps, making distributing awards/certificates, filling out lap/mile cards, distributing and pinning bibs, leading stretches, regulating snacks/water, managing sound system, and more. The week after the event, volunteers are also appreciated to help collect and count funds turned in.
Hawk Wear
Chairpersons: Lauren Memmott
Description: 2-3 volunteers needed to assist with Hawk Wear sales, flyer distribution, payment collection, placing orders and delivering Hawk Wear. Hawk Wear is sold during the Back to School season, Fall Social, and Carnival.
Movie Night
Chairpersons: Jessie Moreno-Graham and Collete Paulson
Event Date: TBD
Description: 6-12 or more volunteers needed to assist with 3-4 Movie Nights on select Friday evenings after school for help with set up, clean up, tickets, concessions and crowd control. Volunteers receive a free ticket(s) for the next Movie Night. This is a year-long opportunity.
Pacific Science Center on Wheels
Chairpersons: Vacant (not currently needed)
Event Date: Not in the budget for 2022-2023 School Year
Description: 3-4 volunteers to assist Chair with set up of exhibits, managing classrooms as they come through exhibits, and clean up after the event. PSC gives all volunteers some sort of coupon for free or discounted admission to the science center!
PTO Bulletin Board

Description: 1-2 volunteers to assist Chair with maintaining an up to date, inviting, engaging bulletin board outside the front office with current PTO events.
PTO Directory

Description: 1-2 volunteers to assist Chair with soliciting for PTO Membership, collecting Membership forms and payment, entering data into program for creation of direction, correcting/verifying contact information as needed, and printing/distributing directory.
Read-A-Thon
Chairpersons: Jeneé Alston and Megan Rodriguez
Event Date: October 24 - November 7
Description: 6+ volunteers to assist Chair with marketing for the event in advance, collating, preparing and distributing reading logs and pledge envelopes, coordinating with teachers and librarian event theme and Library Night, securing prizes for individual participation, individual goal achievement and school wide goal achievement, counting minutes and participation, distributing prizes weekly and after the event, collecting pledge envelopes and counting donations, and more.
Science Fair/STEAM Night
Supervised by McKenny Teacher
Event Date: Uncertain if this is happening this year
Description: Event volunteers assist McKenny teacher with set-up the day before. During the day of the event, volunteers function as judges for student projects, hand out ‘passports’ and pass out snacks running various game stations, clean-up after wards and other provide other help as directed.

Description: 2-3 volunteers to wear Spirit mascot costume during school wide events (Reading Night, Fund Run, Carnival, Fall Social, etc) for brief periods of time.
Spring Carnival

Description: 20+ volunteers to assist Chair in marketing the event in advance, distributing flyers, selecting games related to theme, securing sufficient prizes, coordinating bake sale, bingo and silent auction community donations, coordinating with Class Parent Reps for auction/raffle basket creation as well as class game volunteers and classroom game sign creation, securing food/beverages, setting up and running sound system, set up and clean-up the day before, day of and after the event, selling tickets, distributing pre-sale tickets and collecting funds at the event, and Hawk Wear sales.
Staff Appreciation

Description: Committee volunteers help plan a special week for staff at the beginning of the school year and during the Teacher Appreciation Week in May
Value Village Fundraisers

Description: 6+ volunteers to attend 2 hour shifts at Lacey Value Village to accept donations from McKenny families and community members that want their donations to benefit McKenny. Depending on interest, volunteers may also collect large items the evening before or morning before the event at McKenny for transport via volunteers to Value Village.
Welcome Back Social

Yearbook

Description: 1-2 volunteers to assist Chairs with taking, collecting and organizing photos, helping promote school-wide yearbook cover design contest as well as advertising sales and collecting yearbook funds.
School Beautification

Description: Unlimited number of volunteers to gather a few times a year to help with landscaping, weeding, planting and general maintenance of the grounds (not mowing, painting, etc.).
